HOW NOT TO GET SUED: Basic law for indies and freelancers

Wessex Media Group presents: HOW NOT TO GET SUED!
Basic law for indies and freelancers

Edgar Forbes – The Media School – Bournemouth University, United Kingdom

The Wallace Lecture Theatre, Bournemouth University
Wed June 13th - Networking and Refreshments – 6-00pm – Event 6-30pm

Edgar Forbes is The Media School’s expert in media law. He is a regular contributor to Media Guardian on legal matters and the former Head of Global Rights Management at Reuters.

This session will provide:- An overview of key legal and regulatory developments affecting independent producers and freelancers.
- A look at the challenges of supplying content for non-linear platforms.
- An opportunity to assess the demand for further more specialised law courses which could be offered via Wessex Media Group.

From documentary through to drama, lifestyle to investigative programmes, independent producers need to be up-to-date with all the latest legal and regulatory developments. It’s no good leaving the ‘legals’ to post-production a rewrite or re-shoot creates unnecessary costs and delays. Broadcasters and other commissioners increasingly expect those producing the programmes they commission to ensure the production process is compliant and necessary legal checks, release forms and permissions have been obtained. This session will examine what producers need to be aware of and how to ensure compliance within the production process.

The session will also focus on the challenges of dealing with compliance issues across non-linear platforms as well as IP rights issues that arise in a non-linear and digital environment.

There is no charge for this event but you will need to register beforehand by e mailing lena@wessexmediagroup.co.uk
