eHealth Network advances cross-border healthcare and health data exchange

On 23 November, the eHealth Network (eHealth representatives of all EU member states) adopted guidelines for National Contact Points and a governance model to be used for sharing health data across borders. The Network also recommends EU countries to use tools and guidelines developed by the EU-funded PARENT project for interoperable health registries.

Blog post Marco Viceconti: 'The time has come to transform the biomedical industry'

Animal and human testing is no longer necessary: 525 experts from 35 countries, including 22 of the 28 EU countries, produced an Avicenna roadmap for transforming the biomedical industry. It describes the route by which computer simulation can be introduced into clinical trials. The Roadmap has been approved by reviewers of the European Commission and Professor of Biomechanics Marco Viceconti has written a guest blog post on the matter.

Report: EU countries plan to spend 954 million on eHealth in 2014-2020

According to a European Commission mapping report that shows the use of European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) between 2014 and 2020, the 28 EU Member States plan to spend EUR 3.8 billion on health infrastructure alone and a further EUR 954 million on the use of ICT in health.

A business case of the EU-funded Dem@Care project called Sensorizon, has won the regional final in the Venture Cup business plan competition in Sweden, in the category "Life Science & Technology. Sensorizon is a system for assisting people with dementia and personnel in nursing homes.
