Neha Shahid Chaudhry, a student entrepreneur at the University of the West of England (Bristol), has developed a smart walking stick to improve the lives of Parkinson's sufferers at the technology incubator at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory. Parkinson's sufferers are prone to falls when their joints seize up. The smart walking stick detects when a user’s limbs have frozen and they cannot continue walking. The pause in motion triggers the stick, which starts vibrating to help the patient regain the rhythm and get moving again.
